CHAPLAINS DEVOTIONALSPRING INTO GODS WORD

                  Thoughts of Spring 2022

CH (COL) Ron Crews, USAR Retired

I enjoy all of our seasons; living in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains we get to see and experience all four seasons.  What a joy it is to see the pink and white azaleas, the dogwoods, purple phlox, tulips of many colors, and so many others.  They just seem to spring (pun intended) into life overnight.  Spring says new life is coming.  The cold, darkness of winter is over.

Have you ever considered that it is no coincidence that Passover, the Jewish Holy Day that commemorates when God delivered His people from the slavery of Egypt, occurs in the Spring?  The Jewish people experienced new life, a fresh beginning after centuries of darkness.

And, for Christians, we remember the Passion of Christ – in the Spring.  His Last Supper with His disciples was on the first night of Passover.  His death on a Roman cross was on the next day.  And on the third day, we celebrate His Resurrection to new life.  We do this every Spring!

I believe God created the seasons to remind us each year of His great works.  We can see around us new life, beautiful life.  We can smell the aroma of budding flowers and fresh-cut grass.  New life, new opportunities to experience the Goodness of our God.

This morning the words, “Behold, I make all things new” popped into my mind.  I knew it was from the Biblical book of Revelation, so I looked it up, Revelation 21:5.  This is one of many characteristics of God.  He is a God who makes things new, fresh.

This helps me to remember that I am not bound by my past.  Yes, I have made many mistakes and have many regrets for things done and not done.  But with my God, He makes all things new.  His mercies are new every morning; great is His faithfulness.

As you look at the miracle of new life this season, may you know God offers you new life for this new season.
